Within risk management constructs, external risk is as equally valid as internal risk. Natural disasters, external hazardous materials releases, and workplace violence from outside the organization can harm employees and affect organizational operations as much or more than inter-workplace hazards.
In parts one and two of this three-part series, COVID-19’s hazard analysis, risk assessment and hazard controls were covered within the risk management construct. However, these functions only cover the first, planning half of the continual improvement cycle.

Invited to do a workshop for a very large international corporation, I went out to a dinner where I sat next to the “grand poohbah” vice president in charge of all things quality and safety. He leaned over to me and said:
