According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were slightly more than three million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses reported in 2013. While this number is lower than previous years, the question that remains is how many near misses occurred in the workplace that were not reported and could result in a future injury or fatality.
The ability to report severe injuries online in order to comply with updates to OSHA’s recordkeeping rule that went into effect Jan. 1st will not be available until mid-January, according to the agency. “The electronic form is currently under development,” according to a statement from OSHA.
