The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation has developed an online resource that provides businesses and employees with access to resources and information to help improve workforce health and safety, attract and retain high-performing employees and minimize healthcare costs.
The Foundation says Business Pulse: Healthy Workforce, is intended to help protect the health of businesses.
Infographics on the site illustrate various EHS-related challenges to business, such as presenteesim, loss of productivity and expensive health conditions. One example of the latter: “Heart disease and stroke are among the most widespread and costly health problems facing our nation today. Treatment of these diseases accounts for about $1 of every $6 spent on U.S. health care.”
In the United States, productivity losses linked to absenteeism cost employers $225 billion annually. Globally the economic burden of work-related injury is equivalent to 4 percent of world gross domestic product. “No matter the size of a business, promoting safe and healthy practices can increase profitability and productivity,” according to the CDC Foundation.
The Foundation is a nonprofit entity established by Congress that forges partnerships between CDC and the private sector to support the CDC’s 24/7 work to fight threats to health and safety.
