ACGIH® will honor its 2016 Awards recipients at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) held May 21-26, 2016 in Baltimore, Maryland. Each year, ACGIH® honors individuals and/or groups who have made significant contributions to the profession through their leadership and dedication. This year’s awardees join that distinguished list.
A supplement to the December issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH), will address current issues related to the science of setting occupational exposure limits (OELs). The ten articles in State of the Science of Occupational Exposure Limit Methods and Guidance resulted from collaborations between scientists at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA), and other organizations.
ACGIH® has released its 2015 editions of the TLVs® and BEIs® book and the Guide to Occupational Exposure Values. The information in the user-friendly, pocket-sized TLVs® and BEIs® book is used worldwide as a guide for evaluation and control of workplace exposures to chemical substances and physical agents.
Confined spaces containing potentially hazardous atmosphere need to be tested prior to entry, and on-going ventilation and testing procedures must be utilized to ensure that the space remains safe for occupancy for the entire duration of the entry.
ACGIH® announced today that its Board of Directors ratified the 2015 Threshold Limit Values (TLVs®) for Chemical Substances and Physical Agents and Biological Exposure Indices (BEIs®). The Board also approved recommendations for additions to the Notice of Intended Changes (NIC).
According to an exclusive Industrial Safety & Hygiene News magazine subscriber survey, the overwhelming majority of safety and industrial hygiene personnel use OSHA’s permissible exposure limits (PELs) to monitor hazardous substances and as part of their overall employee respiratory protection efforts (85 percent).
