According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 400 work-related deaths have been caused by environmental heat exposure since 2011. The newly approved ANSI / ASSP A10.50 Heat Stress Management Standard is the first heat-related National Consensus Standard for construction and demolition operations. The Standard presents requirements to help prevent heat illnesses from occurring on any indoor or outdoor construction or demolition worksite. It provides an approach to help workers acclimatize to working in high-heat conditions so they can tolerate the heat better. Other important topics associated with work-related heat stress will include engineering and administrative controls.
Learning Objectives:
Assist attendees in developing the elements of a work-related heat stress management program for both outdoor and indoor work environments.
Discuss the importance of proper acclimatization to protect employees while working in high-heat conditions.
Provide ideas for engineering and administrative controls to reduce or eliminate workers’ symptoms at construction and demolition worksites.
Present planning assistance in developing training content for workers and supervisors related to heat stress.
