Amazon Honored for Employee Safety (5/28)
May 29, 2008
OSHA today recognized Amazon.com in New Castle, Del., for
continued success in employee safety and health, according to an agency press
release. OSHA recertified Amazon.com's Delaware Fulfillment Center in New
Castle at the "star," or highest, level in its prestigious Voluntary
Protection Programs (VPP). During a ceremony at the center, Vincent Soss,
compliance assistance specialist for OSHA's Wilmington Area Office, presented
the facility with a recertification plaque, according to the release.
"Amazon.com's Delaware Fulfillment Center consistently has demonstrated a strong commitment to employee safety and health," said Domenick Salvatore, director of OSHA's Wilmington office. "The company has maintained an injury and illness rate below the industry average for three years."
The Delaware Fulfillment Center services millions of online customers, according to OSHA. The center predominately warehouses books and music CDs for the online retail giant, and has 450 employees.
