August 17, 2016

Mine Safety and Health AcademyThe National Mine Health and Safety Academy is celebrating its 40th birthday today with a ceremony in Beaver, West Virginia that honors its legacy.

Dedicated to promoting miners' safety and health, the Academy offers health and safety training courses, conducts hands-on firefighting and fire suppression training at its Mine Simulation Laboratory (at right) and distributes education and training materials.

The goal: training the nation's miners and mining community on technological advances and methods that help eliminate unhealthy and unsafe working conditions.

The Academy's facilities are used by miners; mine operators and their representatives; state, national, and international mine safety organizations; academia; and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) personnel. In addition, its library materials provide access to a variety of mine safety and health information, training materials and programs.
