According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 5,000 American manufacturing workers suffer injuries involving amputation or limb loss every single year. In all, amputations rank in OSHA's top three serious workplace injuries.
Drill presses, lathes, grinders and milling machinery are essential metalworking tools, but like all machines, they can be dangerous without adequate safeguarding. Hundreds of injuries occur annually from the improper maintenance and use of these machines, such as amputations, burns and lacerations, according to the Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA).
