Time and time again National Safety Apparel (NSA) has been asked to manufacture a lighter weight knit shirt that would meet the needs of workers exposed to the potential hazards of flash fire and arc flash. It took some time, but they are proud to answer with their newest garment line. The TrueComfort™ FR Knit Shirt Collection is constructed from a 5.5 ounce 100% FR Cotton fabric that meets NFPA 2112 and 70E (HRC2) Standards.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), arc-flash is an electric current that passes through air when insulation or isolation between electrified conductors is no longer sufficient to withstand the applied voltage. The flash is immediate, but the result of these incidents can cause severe injury including burns. Each year more than 2,000 people are treated in burn centers with severe arc flash injuries.
Revco Industries Inc. is giving welders more FR options with new pants choices and their new arc rated welding jacket. Revco is now offering orange FR pants for the safety industry, as well as green pants with hook and loop leg slits for easy on and off with boots.

OSHA requires employers to protect employees from electrical hazards, including arc flash. Yet OSHA does not specifically explain how to comply with these regulations. NFPA 70E is the bridge between OSHA regulations and compliance.
Four different arc flash type events need to be assessed when designing safety programs: Open Air Arc Flashes; Ejected Arc Flashes; Equipment Focused Arc; Flashes (Arc-in-a-box); Tracking Arc Flashes. Many methods exist to protect personnel from arc flash hazards.
