A Chicago-based manufacturer ignored safety requirements and put workers at risk for debilitating injuries because dangerous machines with moving parts lacked proper safety mechanisms.

OSHA is requesting information from the public about worker safety hazards in communication tower construction and maintenance activities. The agency says the information will assist it in determining what measures to take to prevent worker injuries and fatalities.

Workers at a United States Postal Service (USPS) mail sorting facility were exposed to electrical hazards, OSHA inspectors found, and it wasn’t the first USPS location to have such hazards.

Employees at the Central Transport LLC freight shipping terminal in Billerica, Massachusetts were exposed to electrocution, falls, crushing and other injuries due to their employer's knowing and repeated disregard for basic worker safeguards, OSHA has found. The company faces $330,800 in fines for these hazards.

Residential framing and siding contractor Southern Wood Works LLC has been cited by OSHA for five safety violations following an August 2014 inspection at a residence in Watersound. Citations were issued to the Freeport, Fla.-based company for failing to provide employees with fall protection equipment and exposure to falls from heights of up to 17 feet.

A 30-year-old painter was hospitalized after he received second and third degree burns when his ladder came into contact with overhead power lines. As a result, OSHA has cited ShayCore Enterprises with five safety and health violations.

OSHA inspections following an April 14, 2014, incident in which an employee lost parts of two fingers in an inadequately guarded machine have resulted in citations for 16 serious violations against West Hartford Stairs and Cabinets.
