3M has unveiled a state-of-the-art testing facility for its expanding portfolio of fall protection solutions, complete with a research and development tower. The testing facility is located within 3M’s Fall Protection campus in Cottage Grove, Minn. and will be fully functional by the end of 2013.
An Illinois company faces $100,000+ in fines after a sharp-eyed OSHA inspector noticed workers without PPE conducting demolition operations on a Chicago bridge that was coated with lead-based paint.
OSHA has cited Coastal Plating Co. with 16 safety violations at its Corpus Christi facility. In May, an employee learning how to operate a blast cabinet was struck by a gas compressor power cylinder when it exited a cabinet. The worker died from his injuries.
Proposed FDA rule would also allow poultry companies to handle own inspections

A coalition of worker safety and food safety groups is urging the FDA to drop a proposed regulation that would pull government food inspectors from poultry plants and allow companies to conduct their own inspections and speed up production lines.
1. Forklift batteries expose workers to dangerous chemicals. Lead-acid and nickel-iron rechargeable batteries contain corrosive chemicals, which harm skin if a worker is not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
