Report says air traffic controller errors, other incidents continue to rise
October 14, 2011
Despite steps taken to improve safety at and around the nation's airports, mistakes made by air traffic controllers have nearly doubled in the last three years, according to a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
Before escaping Washington for their August vacations, U.S. senators finally approved a long-delayed Federal Aviation Administration bill that put thousands of FAA workers back on the job.
Congress’ failure to pass a Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) bill before going on vacation has put 74,000 aviation-related jobs in limbo, but Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood insists that air travel is still safe.
Contractors have been told to stop work on critical airport modernization projects around the country after Congress failed to pass legislation on Friday giving the FAA the authority necessary for work to continue.
