June is National Safety Month, and the National Safety Council is calling on Americans to take notice of the fifth* leading cause of death – unintentional injuries. Every four minutes someone in the U.S dies from an unintentional injury. That’s 120,000 people a year.

The National Safety Council is now accepting nominations for the NSC Rising Stars of Safety, presented by DuPont Sustainable Solutions. Awarded annually, this honor recognizes individuals younger than 40 who stand out in the safety field by displaying creative and innovative ideas.
2014 edition of Injury Facts® reveals largest safety threats facing Americans today

The National Safety Council today released the 2014 edition of Injury Facts®, which details safety statistics and trends across the U.S. and worldwide. Injury Facts has been the Council’s go-to resource for all safety statistics for more than 90 years.
The National Safety Council (NSC) announced today the appointment of Deborah A.P. Hersman as the president and CEO of the 100-year-old organization chartered by Congress to prevent unintentional injury and death. Ms. Hersman, who is currently the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will be joining NSC at its headquarters in Itasca, IL, in suburban Chicago.
The National Safety Council honored former U.S. Treasury Secretary and Alcoa CEO Paul O’Neill with the Council’s President’s Award at its annual Congress & Expo – the world’s largest annual gathering of safety and health professionals.
The Campbell Institute – the National Safety Council’s center of excellence for environmental, health and safety management – has introduced a new white paper, “Transforming EHS Performance Measurement through Leading Indicators” at the 2013 NSC Congress & Expo.
The National Safety Council is proud to announce that Jeff Woodbury, vice president, safety, security, health and environment for Exxon Mobil Corporation, has been elected chairman of the National Safety Council Board of Directors.
The NSC 2012 Congress & Expo in Orlando, FL is the largest workplace safety and health conference in the United States, drawing more than 12,000 safety, health and environmental professionals.
