If you have seen a construction site recently, you may have noticed workers standing on elevated equipment that resembles scaffolding, except with only one platform level for workers. With its ship-like mast, this equipment is aptly called a mast-climbing work platform, or mast climber for short.

The dangers tractor trailer drivers face on the road are well known: dangerous fellow motorists, hazardous weather conditions, mechanical difficulties that could lead to an accident. Falls remain a persistent cause of work-related death, and workers in construction and oil and gas extraction are more likely than other workers to die from falling, according to NIOSH research published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine.

Ten. Six. Zero. Those are important numbers for a Utah animal feed manufacturer Balchem Corporation. The company recently celebrated ten years in OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program, and six years of maintaining an annual recordable injury and illness case rate of zero. That last accomplishment resulted in reductions in its worker compensation insurance premiums.

There are tried and true reasons why stainless steel is the surface material of choice in commercial kitchens and food prep areas: it’s durable, nonporous, nonreactive, resistant to corrosion and equally important, easy to keep clean.

As temperatures heat up across the country and landscaping work kicks into high gear, several industry associations are partnering with OSHA to help protect their workers from heat-related illnesses and landscaping injuries. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) may not make the headlines like more dramatic injuries do, but they nonetheless have a considerable –and negative – impact on companies’ bottom lines. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports in 2013, MSD cases accounted for 33% of all worker injury and illness cases. Work related MSDs are among the most frequently reported causes of lost or restricted work time.
