Recently in Texas, two men were seriously injured on the job. In some ways, their circumstances looked very different. They were in different cities, working for different employers. One was repairing a roof, high above the ground. The other was in a trench, about eight feet down.

OSHA inspectors who observed some employees working on a roof without fall protection opened an investigation at the site, which led to fines and citations for New Homes Construction, Inc. of Burlington, New Jersey.

Workers performing tasks while on scaffolding can be exposed to fall hazards involving considerable height, a factor which makes scaffolding-related violations especially serious.
