Streamlight® Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-performance flashlights for fire and rescue professionals, announced it has updated its popular Survivor® right-angle personal light with a new, compact bezel and other design changes. The new model also includes two plugs that allow users to customize the light’s beam with smoke-cutting lighting options.
“The Survivor, which firefighters depend on for its toughness, compact size and reliability, just got even better with a new, low-profile bezel that helps prevents snagging while putting on gear and equipment,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. Dineen. “We’ve also made other changes in response to user feedback, including redesigning the light’s attachment clip and adding a reinforced D-ring, to ensure the light consistently hangs forward. While the light maintains the traditional Survivor’s bright beam, we’ve also included two new Smoke Cutter plugs for a choice of beam options.”
The two new plug choices include an Amber Smoke Cutter® and a Black Smoke Cutter®, both of which reduce peripheral light when inserted into the light’s optic. Use of the Amber Smoke Cutter Plug also reduces the potential for glare in smoke conditions, while giving off a more yellow light that is easier on the eyes. The Black Smoke Cutter Plug provides a more concentrated beam appearance.
The new model features the latest in C4® LED technology for extreme brightness, and offers microprocessor-controlled high and low intensity, emergency flash, and moonlight modes. On high, the light delivers 175 lumens and 41,000 candela. The light’s custom optic produces a narrow beam, ideal for cutting through smoke, fog and mist, while also providing optimum peripheral illumination to aid in navigation.
The Survivor operates on a rechargeable Ni-Cd battery, which can be recharged up to 1,000 times. The light also permits firefighters to insert a spare pack of four “AA” alkaline batteries to reduce the likelihood of being caught in the dark with a spent battery.
Operating run times for the Ni-Cd battery range from 3.5 hours on High to 13 hours on Low, with 8 hours on the flash setting and 20 continuous days in moonlight mode. The light is available with AC and DC one-hour fast chargers, with full charge indicators designed specifically for AC or DC power sources. An alkaline model is available as well.
The light’s reinforced, built-in attachment D-ring and updated spring-loaded clip offer superior retention, conveniently latching to belts and harnesses. Its super-tough nylon housing provides exceptional durability.
All openings are O-ring sealed to resist moisture, including the light’s unbreakable polycarbonate lens with silicone anti-scratch coating, assembled in a heavy-duty bezel. The light has an IPX4 rated design for water resistance and is impact resistance-tested to 2 meters.
The updated Survivor is available in international safety orange, high-visibility yellow or black. The MSRP for the Survivor is $215.27, with the alkaline version available for $99.64.
