Make a difference in your own neighborhood
I don’t believe individual leadership can change a national health and safety issue. I would propose that leadership at the individual level, particularly where folks are employed at companies, can make a difference. Even consultants can make a difference when present-day health, safety and environment professionals realize that there are lingering unresolved issues such as noise, heat stress, ergonomics, fall protection, confined space, and trench safety. What I have learned is that it is nearly impossible to move the national status quo, but you can make a difference in your own neighborhood. Here you can leave something better than when you first got there. Remember Admiral Rickover and the importance of finishing the job. You can create a legacy.
