“Silicosis: Deadly Dust,” an OSHA educational video about the hazards of silica exposure, has won first place in the safety category in an international competition to find the best business communications videos.
The nine-minute video, which was released in August 2013 to coincide with the release of an OSHA rule to reduce silica exposure limits, won first-place in the Best Safety Video category in PR Daily’s 2013 Video Awards.
The documentary profiles a typical silicosis sufferer: a longtime sandblaster who died shortly after being diagnosed with the disease. Interviews with doctors, Labor Department officials, safety consultants, stone carvers, and other experts are featured as well, to explore the nature of the disease and the measures that can be taken to prevent it.
