May has been deemed Building Safety Month by the International Code Council (ICC), which wants to make the public aware of what it takes to create and maintain safe and sustainable structures.
This year's theme is BUILDING SAFETY: Maximizing Resilience, Minimizing Risks. Each week of Building Safety Month spotlights a specific area of building safety.

The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system. The ICC and its 50,000 members worldwide are coordinating the informational efforts through partnerships with the building construction, design and safety community as well as corporations, government agencies, and professional associations.
Building Safety Month campaign is aimed at increasing awareness about how building codes and code officials improve and protect the places where we live, learn, work, worship and play.
