The Voluntary Protection Program Participants Association (VPPPA) met last week for its annual national conference, this year in Anaheim. An expected 3,000+ members from worksites involved in OSHA and Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) attended workshops led by fellow workers, as well as keynote presentations. But the emphasis is on workers and work teams teaching each other. At times, impromptu safety cheers and chants break out among the many non-professional, blue collar “safety champions.” ISHN reports on several stories circulating that are giving the low-profile, high-energy safety “stars” program unusual attention.
