In 2009, Polartec® introduced a total layering system that provides certified Flame Resistant protection, combined with the proven comfort and functionality of Polartec® performance fabrics. True North, a leading manufacturer of work wear for the fire service, electrical utility and manufacturing markets, has partnered with Polartec to produce premium garments using Polartec's Flame Resistant (FR) technology.
"True North understands quality, performance, and the need to be on the cutting edge of innovation both in fabric selection and garment design", says Michael Batson, Polartec's Global FR Business Manager. "After many years of development work with the US Military and outdoor markets, we are proud to offer a truly innovative collection of FR fabrics to partners like True North."
True North has recently launched a line of garments using Polartec® Flame Resistant fabrics. Polartec worked with True North to develop a Polartec® Thermal® FR fleece made from Nomex® that offers unmatched wind resistance. True North is also using a Polartec® Power Stretch® FR fabric that offers 4-way stretch, warmth without weight, breathability, and efficient moisture management. Worn by militaries around the world, Polartec's patented Power Stretch® grid knit construction is now being rapidly adopted by the commercial FR market as a cold weather, flame resistant base or midlayer. Additionaly, True North is using Polartec's Power Dry® FR line of baselayer fabrics which offer HRC2 arc flash protection for utility workers. Polartec® Power Dry® FR is a favored baselayer material for fire service personnel due to its unmatched moisture management performance. In Spring of 2011 True North will be launching its lightweight t-shirt also manufactured with Polartec's Power Dry® FR fabric, perfect for those long summer days.
Polartec FR fabrics are inherently flame resistant, tested in both in-house and independent state-of-the-art laboratories, and pass relevant industry certifications.
