The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) announced in a recent press release that it will host a webinar on Thursday, March 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CST on safety certification — what it is, and what it means for a safety professional’s career growth. Titled “Getting Certified in Safety: Learn the Facts and Break Through the Barriers,” the webinar will be presented by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Executive Director Roger Brauer, Ph.D, P.E., CSP.

The ASSE Webinar will discuss the different certifications such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) along with: eligibility requirements for certifications – how every safety professional can get a certification now or will be eligible in a short time; taking the first step – make a plan from application to preparation to sitting for the exam; completing the application – where do you go to get started; preparing for the examinations – what are the options; dispelling concerns about the changes to the Associate Safety Professional (ASP)/CSP blueprint; using the BCSP academic database to locate classroom and online college and university degree programs in safety and health, and resources available such as those from ASSE and BCSP.

About 40 percent of today’s safety professionals have advanced degrees. Because safety professionals have a direct impact on public safety and health, many organizations encourage EHS professionals to achieve credentials in addition to their educational degrees. The ASSE Foundation (www.asse.org/foundation) offers scholarships for continuing education and new students in the area of EHS.

Additional upcoming ASSE Webinars include “How to Effectively Train Your Spanish Speaking Workforce – Simple & Practical Tips to Get Your Point Across”, Wednesday, March 18.
