OSHA is keeping the site a secret, but the agency says it is about to recognize its 2,000th Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) qualifier.

In 1982, the VPP program began with 11 sites. VPP has been on steep growth curve since 2001, when federal and state VPP sites numbered 777. In 2008, there were 1,896 federal and state VPP sites. Never in its 27-year history has the number of VPP sites declined from one year to the next. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, VPP growth was relatively flat, increasing from 11 in 1982 to 229 in 1995.

OSHA says a July celebration is planned at the site where Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., will officially recognize this achievement.
