OSHA Monday began its investigation into the collapse of the Berkman II plaza parking garage in Jacksonville, Fla. This follows days of searching for a missing worker. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue found the dead body of 26-year-old Willie Edwards III Saturday.
The garage was under construction when it buckled and gave way early Thursday morning. Dozens of people were trapped and suffered injuries.
Deputy Director Fire Chief R.R. White says Edwards was buried under about five feet of debris with 24 inches of concrete on top of that.
OSHA, which according to news reports said the investigation of the collapse could take up to six months, will look at scaffolding, load-bearing walls, floors, ceilings, the types of material used and who delivered the materials. The agency will also interview workers.
