The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has released guidance documents explaining details of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62-2001, "Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality."

The standard sets minimum ventilation rates and other requirements for commercial and institutional buildings. Addendum 62af describes how the standard relates to new and existing buildings, industrial and lab spaces, and adds a caveat for situations where outdoor air quality may be poor.

Other key information includes:

  • Addendum 62k adds a new information appendix addressing application of the standard in new and existing buildings.
  • Addendum 62r contains requirements for assessing the quality of outdoor air used for ventilation.
  • Addendum 62ae adds, modifies or deletes several definitions to clarify language.
  • Addendum 62i provides guidance on when to use the indoor air quality procedure.
