A 60-year-old employee of Omaha’s largest recycling plant was killed in a workplace accident last week. Authorities have identified the victim as Dilaver Gasa, an employee of First Star Recycling.
News sources say the fatality occurred on Thursday morning, when Gasa was pinned under the bucket of a front end loader. EMTs pronounced him dead at the scene.
First Star Recycling employs more than 100 people at its Omaha and Lincoln facilities. The company processes recyclables for businesses and communities throughout the Midwest and markets close to 100,000 tons annually to end users throughout the country and internationally.
According to a report cited by OSHA, the recycling industry poses a large number of risks to workers in the sector, who are often poorly paid and ill trained.
