The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is proud to announce the 2019 recipients of the organization's most prestigious awards. The recipients, Stewart Burkhammer, CSP, OHST; Carl Heinlein, CSP, OHST, STSC; Tye Legleu, CSP, OHST; Eric Simmons, CSP, SMS, CHST, STSC received their awards today, June 12, 2019, during a luncheon ceremony at the American Society of Safety Professionals' (ASSP) Safety 2019 conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
There were many submissions sent to the BCSP Awards Committee from a multitude of exceptional safety practitioners. After deliberating, the BCSP Board of Directors' Award Committee selected four exemplary certificants. Stewart Burkhammer received the BCSP Lifetime Achievement Award. Carl Heinlein received the CSP Award of Excellence. Tye Legleu received the OHST Award of Excellence and Eric Simmons received the CHST Award of Excellence.
BCSP is proud of the work of its certificants and enjoys joining with colleagues in sharing appreciation of outstanding safety professionalism by honoring these certificants' leadership, knowledge, expertise, and commitment to the advancement of safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) practice.
Upon receiving his award, Burkhammer (shown at right) thanked his mentors and spoke to the future of the profession. "I am deeply honored and humbled to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from BCSP in recognition of my 50+ years of working in the environmental, safety, and health field. I have spent a career speaking out on various issues and have learned that the voice of one person has a much greater impact when it is the voice of a group. I am extremely proud of the growth of the ES&H community. The ES&H professional of the future will be someone who is comfortable with not just developing, but promoting culture changes strategies."
Each of the recipients contributed a great deal to the SH&E profession. We thank all who submitted nominations and encourage future submissions.
