A 44 year-old construction worker’s right arm was ripped off during an industrial-related accident in Hillsboro Beach. Fla.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene just after 10 a.m. Witnesses told rescue works that the man was working with an industrial auger, a tool used for boring holes into the ground, when his right arm got trapped in the drill bit.
“The mechanical force of the drill-bit caused a complete amputation of his right arm just below the shoulder,” Broward Battalion Chief Michael Kane said in a release.
Broward Fire Rescue didn’t release the injured worker’s name. He was transported to Broward Health North by ground for evaluation, but due the severity of the injury he was then flown to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale so surgeons could try to reattach his arm.
“Miraculously, the patient was conscious and in stable condition after the traumatic incident, likely due to the swift actions of a Hillsboro Police Officer on the scene who applied a tourniquet and managed the patient’s care before paramedics arrived,” Kane’s release said.
