Last Tuesday was a bad day in New York City’s construction industry. According to news sources, two workers at fell to their deaths at two different construction projects in the city.
33-year-old Ju Cong Wu fell nine stories down an elevator shaft at a hotel development in the Flatiron District. Later that day, 26-year-old John Davie fell out a window at a sixth floor co-op in Rego Park that was being renovated.
The Wu fatality was the second in five years for the McSam Hotel Group. Davie died while doing work without a permit and, according to the New York Daily News, fell while his horrified parents looked on. He had been working with his father and another man.
The owner of the condo was cited for safety violations and for doing unsanctioned renovations.
