An employee of Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) was struck and killed by a train Saturday west of Queens Village station.
News reports say the train stopped and its passengers were evacuated after the 10:30 a.m. accident. They walked along the tracks to the nearest platform, then were transported by buses to a point further along the route.
Other trains experienced 15 to 20 minute delays.
The accident is under investigation. It is not yet known why the worker was on the tracks. Authorities said the train had just left the station, so it is not likely that speed was a factor in the crash.
