Former Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas) says one of the best tools to combat climate change is the use of clean, renewable sources of energy. Wind, Solar and advanced biofuels offer the ability to produce power without polluting the atmosphere.
But Reyes warns that many companies in the rooftop solar panel business are using tactics to get new customers “that can only be described as questionable. This is a serious problem, because if the solar industry gets the reputation for being scam artists, the American people may walk away from this important renewable energy source. That would increase the amount of pollution we put into the air and accelerate climate change, resulting in a serious blow to our long-term national security.
“The problem of bad actors in the solar industry is not isolated to any one state or company. Across the nation, six different Attorneys General - both Democrats and Republicans - have issued warnings to consumers to be wary of the solar industry. These Attorneys General also represent states as diverse as Connecticut and Louisiana.”
Reyes served in the House from 1997 to 2013 and Chaired the House Select Committee on Intelligence from 2007 - 2011.
