ACGIH® is proud to announce its new status as a 501(c)(3) charitable scientific organization. ACGIH® was formerly a 501(c)(6) organization. This new status allows ACGIH® to accept tax-deductible donations that will be used to continue the important work of its scientific Committees. Donations are fully tax deductible as provided by law retroactive to the determination date – January 4, 2016.

For 75 years, ACGIH® has provided leadership and guidance with regard to workplace safety and health. By providing employers and employees with guidelines and recommendations that create a safe work environment or minimize inherently dangerous work environments, ACGIH® has been a leader in protecting the safety and health of workers. Many dedicated industry scientists and ACGIH® members work on ACGIH® Committees developing guidelines and recommendations for safe work practices because they believe in the importance of protecting workers.

Perhaps the most visible ACGIH® Committee is the Threshold Limit Values for Chemical Substances (TLV®-CS) Committee. The TLV®-CS Committee recommends airborne concentrations of agents and exposure conditions for use in the practice of industrial hygiene and by other qualified professionals to protect worker health. It also produces the TLVs® and BEIs® book – a user-friendly, pocket-sized publication that is used worldwide as a guide for evaluation and control of workplace exposures to chemical substances and physical agents.

“ACGIH®, through its Committees, Board of Directors, members and staff, works tirelessly with one goal in mind. That goal is to make workplaces safe for workers around the world,” said Susan Arnold, ACGIH® Board Chair. “After a long application process, ACGIH® is pleased to have been granted 501(c)(3) status which, in addition to allowing for solicitation of tax-deductible donations, will allow it to pursue grants to support the important work of its Committees and the organization as a whole,” she said.
