An American Red Cross Hospital has issued an apology for a poster about swim safety guidelines for children that shows white children being safe and African-American and Latino children breaking safety rules.
News sources report that the “Be Cool, Follow the Rules” poster -- which contains cartoon depictions of children at a pool. It stirred a Twitter conversation after a parent took a photo of the poster, which she’d seen posted at several pools in Colorado.
The American Red Cross said it has discontinued production of the poster and removed it from the hospital's website and Swim App. The organization said it would develop “more appropriate” materials going forward.
