An employee died Saturday at the 3M plant in Elyria, Ohio from what authorities say may have been an electrical accident.
With the inquiry into the fatality in its early stages, details about what killed David Kleinsmith of Elyria are scarce. The death is being investigated by the Lorain County Coroner’s office. Coroner Dr. Stephen has verified that Kleinsmith was the victim of an industrial accident,
Firefighter-paramedics responding to a call from the company found Kleinsmith on the floor in an area of the plant where chemical processes occurred. His fellow employees were performing CPR on Kleinsmith. The firefighters continued efforts to resuscitate Kleinsmith but were unsuccessful. He was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead later in the day.
OSHA’s Toledo office is investigating the death.
The plant produces goods including sponges and scrub sponges.
